Line Trimmer
You may already know that a line trimmer is simply a handheld device that uses a flexible line which is know as string trimmer line (usually a monofilament line) for cutting grass and hedges. The line trimmer is also known by other names such as trimmer or string trimmer, these are all forms of a basic trimmer which comes in all shapes and sizes. This device consists of handle, motor, monofilament line and a long shaft with controls near the handle.
These garden trimmers first entered the fray in the early 1970’s by a Texan who goes by the name George Ballas. He came up with this revolutionary machine with the help of another revolutionary machine (the car wash), the idea first came to him while he saw the revolving action of the large brushes. After seeing this, he created his first patent of this machine; it consisted of fishing line and a popcorn can, that where bolted together, he named this device the “Weed Eater” which was a very suitable because it fully described the machine.
There are currently two main forms of the line trimmer. There is the gas hedge trimmer and there is the cordless trimmer. Gas trimmers have become increasingly popular over the last decade due to the fact that they can handle heavy duty workloads. The gas hedge trimmer has a larger motor, and can be heavier to handle, but also has a strap that allows the operator to “wear” the trimmer.
The cordless hedge trimmer is an electric version of the line trimmer and is totally environmentally friendly. If you live within city limits you probably have a very small yard. If you only have a few weeds or lawn to trim, the lightweight cordless trimmer is your best option, because it only weighs about 8 pounds. The other notable difference between gas and electric or battery operated is price. You are going to pay a lot less for an electrical motor as opposed to a gas motor.
It is always a good idea to read several reviews before you make your final decision. Price comparison is another task, which can be easily done online.
